| Violin and Piano Sonatas II, III, and I | ||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Artist's
Notes:
1973 Violin and Piano Sonatas I, II, and III These are from a group of five piano and violin sonatas. IV has been sold and V is in the composers possession. These violin and piano sonatas were performed in New York City and throughout Europe from 1975 to 1979. The central figure in these groups exist as free moments of silence. Stencils were made from the central figures. Each shape represents a different length of silence. (Chosen by the musician.) For example, the large forms could be equal to approximately 7 seconds, the smaller less than a second. The musicians chose the section prior to performance- each section separated by the forms of silence. The purpose of these silent forms was to free up and create spaces within the musical composition, releasing the density that had plagued some of the earlier painting scores. |
